Mount Airy Public Library
Policy for Public Use of Meeting Rooms
The Library Multi-Purpose room is available for
public gatherings of a cultural an educational nature. It is not
available for social gatherings, money-raising, or commercial
purposes or for the benefit of private individuals.
Procedures Governing the Use of Meeting
Rooms
and Exhibit Space
1. Meeting rooms and exhibit
space may be used at any time during regular hours of the Library.
Library-sponsored events are not subject to this regulation and
library-sponsored events shall have priority.
2. The capacity of the room is 80 persons.
3. No fees, dues, or donations may be charged
or solicited by the user for any program or exhibit. All programs
and exhibits shall be free and open to the public.
4. Booking will be on a first-come, first-served basis. No groups
may reserve meeting rooms or exhibit space for the same time continually.
5. Meeting rooms and exhibit space may be booked no more than
forty-five days in advance and no less than fourteen days in advance.
Exceptions will be considered upon written request submitted to
the librarian.
6.Programs and exhibits may not disrupt the use of the library
by others. Persons attending the meetings are subject to all library
rules and regulations.
7. Library facilities shall be left in a clean and orderly condition.
Groups or organizations using the library facilities will be held
responsible for any damages, including the carpets which, if stained,
shall be cleaned at the expense of the group using the room.
8. Smoking will not be permitted at any time.
9. Serving of meals in the Multi-Purpose room is not permissible.
Light refreshments such as tea and cookies will be allowed with
prior approval of the library staff. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
10. Any group using the Multi-Purpose room or the Exhibit Space
shall be responsible for the handling and security of their equipment
and exhibits and do so at their own risk. The Library shall not
be responsible for theft or damage to property brought into the
library or for materials and equipment left in the Library building
by the users of the Multi-Purpose room or Exhibit Space.
11. Granting of permission to use library facilities does not
constitute an endorsement by the library staff or Board of Trustees
of the user or its beliefs.
12. Requests for use of the building should be made to the library
staff. A written application will be required. If the use of the
meeting room is denied by the Library personnel, the applicant
may appeal to the Board of Trustees if a written request is received
within five days of the denial.
13. Regulations governing the public use of the Multi-Purpose
room or Exhibit Space can be revised only by the Library Board
of Trustees.
